While researching Puerto Rican history, I wondered what it might have been like for the indigenous Taino Indios from Puerto Rico when Spanish settlers began to colonize the small villages and towns on the island. How difficult it must have been for the Tainos to know what land used to be theirs but was taken, to have their life stripped away by force. It's a simple-looking piece, but it carries a lot of weight for me.
